Vallon is a sans serif typeface available in three widths (Extended, Standard and Condensed) and as a variable font. Inspired by the lettering found on Michelin road signs, which have lined French roads since the 1930s, it carries a distinctly vernacular silhouette.
Originally designed in uppercase for a signage project at the studio Travaux-Pratiques, Vallon now features a complete character set. Its humanist construction and brushstroke-like terminals, both supple and sharp, give it a distinctive character. It combines good legibility at smaller sizes with a strong presence at larger sizes.
These qualities make Vallon a versatile typeface suited to a wide range of contexts, from expressive spatial or digital compositions to the more restrained and refined worlds of editorial design and packaging. A dedicated style for circled numerals can enclose sequences of figures, offering a simple way to highlight numbers and establish visual hierarchy. OpenType features in the Extended and Condensed widths allow letters from the different styles to be combined, giving words new shapes and a distinctive visual rhythm.
